things are a changin'

I was chatting with my mother-in-law at the weekend. (I am so lucky! She is the best!) And I said someone at 23 was "so young". I can't believe that I now think of 23 as "so young".

Lots of things have changed. Funny how time does that! Did you know I was a dancer? I danced for years. But now I've not danced for as many years as I danced.

Facebook is a funny thing. You stay connected to people in a very meaningless way (don't get me wrong there is a huge part of me that loves it!). I know major events that happen in people's lives, but I don't KNOW most of them. It's strange to think some people still know me as a dancer, but I'm not a dancer. You don't know me. Its funny how you can still care about people you don't know, but I think the people you love you have to want to know.

You can care without knowing, but you can LOVE without knowing?

I think we need more love. Real love.

the talk...

I was changing Alice's nappy the other day. And the moment we have all been waiting for finally happened. Joel asked the question...

""Does Alice have a willy?"
"No, Alice doesn't have a willy." (praying he doesn't ask anymore)

(He thinks for a second)...

"Does she have a bum?"
"Yes, Joel she has a bum."

He nods his head and says "yeah" and walks away.

Halloween

It's the Friday before Halloween and I was out driving during the school run. Every child I saw was dressed up in "fancy dress". Now in America the kiddos would be anything from firemen to ballet dances. Generally sweet, innocents costumes. Unfortunately, I didn't see one cheerleader or spider man this morning. Every child was dressed in scary masks or dark witch costumes. It was really sad. I know the real meaning of Halloween is pretty evil, but I like that in America its just an excuse to dress up and get "candy". Here it's a threat. "Give me a treat or I'll give you a trick!"

Sofas

So I was vacuuming the sofas, as I'm sure you all do! Its funny there was a time when Joel wasn't even aloud to sit on them now as I lift each cushion I find a lovely array of raisins and corn flakes and even more worrying a few unidentifiable bits. I guess that's just where were at these days...

Rasins anyone?

cup of tea?

I just put Alice down for her midmorning nap and made myself a nice cup of tea. I sat on the sofa when I saw that Joel had a runny nose. I asked him to get a tissue and to my amazement he got one and used it properly. He then proudly  threw it at me to prove that he had.  Unfortunately it landed in my fresh cup of tea. I dug it out and put it in the bin.  Then without thinking I had a sip of tea!! Ewwww... how gross is that?

I need more sleep!!

the wind...

I told Joel we would do something special after his nap so when he woke up he told me he wanted to have a picnic. So I got out the picnic rug and  we sat on the decking with some chips and an apple and had a sweet chat.

We were talking about the wind. I asked him if he could feel the wind and then if he could see the wind and to my surprise he said "Yes, its when the trees wave."  Then he started waving at the trees and told them that he couldn't come cause he was having a picnic with his mummy.

I love that kid!

My shoes..

So I was sorting through some of my stuff! I don't know why but I have several stashes of stuff. These things I don't really use but I can't seem to part with.  Today I found a pair of dance shoes. They have stayed in this box of stuff for years!!! and I must say unused! But I just can't bring myself to pass them on.  I don't know why. I'm not a sentimental person, but there are a few things that I just can't part with.  I don't really have the desire to dance. I miss it yes, but I just don't see it as something  I want to do now.

so I will always keep my dancin' shoes and I'm pretty confident that they will stay in that box.
